You too can make a difference if you help us.
The abandoned, the starved, the forgotten.
The Abandoned Boy
(named changed to Sam to preserve anonymity)
“………..The times I've been there it has torn me to find him in bedding and clothes soaked in urine, smelling like rats and watching the cockroaches run over the sheets like they are in a playground. It's horrid. How can anyone be left like this. But the nurses have very sick patients to deal with, and Sam is not acutely unwell, he is just delayed. All the other patients have caring mothers at their cot sides, but not Sam, his bedside is empty.” VERITY – Physiotherapist, Freetown |

Alastair Brodie, Trustee and Sandy Stephen were visiting Sierra Leone when the plight of the abandoned child was brought to their attention. They visited the hospital in Freetown Sam was lying in a bed. Sam is severely disabled and had been there for months receiving only the most basic attention. Kids Action took immediate steps to help the child. Within two weeks Sam was being welcomed into his new home. A caring orphanage where he now receives loving care and attention.
The Blind Lady
Loveness lived out her life in abject misery in a dilapidated hut with a broken roof. During the rainy season she struggled to survive in rain soaked poverty. She was impoverished and slept on a tattered mat on the bare floor.
Loveness was brought to our attention by Rev Gondwe in Malawi who knew that he could rely on Kids Action to help.
We quickly managed to find a special donor willing to build a new house for Loveness and Rev Gondwe found reliable and trustworthy people to build it for about £1500.

Loveness now lives in a beautiful little house with a nice porch wher she can enjoy the warmth of the sun. Children now come to visit her. And Loveness sleeps in a bed for the first time in her life.
The Aids Sufferers
Mothers and fathers were dying needlessly from AIDS in Livingstonia, Malawi leaving children either abandoned or in the care of elderly sick grandparents. Kids Action stepped in and raised money to provide antiretrovirals. We were the first organisation in Malawi to help Aids sufferers. Many families are now still intact and children enjoying the loving care of their parents thanks to our intervention. We have since raised money to build the AIDS clinic in Livingstonia providing care and information and saving countless lives. |

Sylvia
Sylvia was fourteen when she came to the home. Her situation was very poor indeed when she arrived at the home and her daily survival was in doubt.
She attended JSS3 and progressed very well through her Secondary School years. In 2004 she took up training as a State Enrolled Community Health Nurse and attained her certificate in 2007.
We were delighted to learn in 2009 that Sylvia had been accepted to attend a State Registered Nurse Diploma Course at The Faculty of Nursing, University of Sierra Leone lasting three years. This is something she has always wanted to do and she is studying hard.
Sylvia stayed at the home during most of her early nursing training but gained a bit of independence when she left the home to live in Nurses Accomodation.
She now lives in a tiny flat in Freetown but she still sees herself as part of the home and calls regularly and watches over the kids and gives advice on health matters.
We continue to support Sylvia with all her living needs and her University fees and studying material.
